Contact lists
Save and reuse distribution lists for sending tracked email invites in bulk.
Contact lists are saved distribution sets that you can send tracked email invites to in bulk. Each list is owned by you and can be reused across multiple documents, letting you build and maintain distributions without re-entering addresses every time.
Creating and managing lists
Create a new list in your account settings by entering a name (up to 100 characters) and clicking "New list". Once created, you can add members individually or import them from a CSV file.
To add a member manually, provide an email address (required) and an optional name. Names are capped at 120 characters and help you identify people in your readership analytics.
Bulk import via CSV
To import many members at once, prepare a CSV file and click "Import CSV". The system reads two columns:
- Column 1 (required): Email address. The system validates each address and skips malformed or empty rows without counting them against your cap.
- Column 2 (optional): Contact name. If provided, it is trimmed and truncated to 120 characters.
Two caps bound each import:
- File size: 1 MB maximum
- Members per import: 1,000 maximum
Both are ceilings rather than hard failures — an oversized file or a run of more than 1,000 valid addresses stops the import at the limit and reports what was added, so split larger sets across several files.
Within a single import, the system automatically deduplicates addresses. If the same email appears twice in your CSV, only the first row is added. Addresses already on the list are not added again. The import reports two totals — how many members were added and how many rows were skipped — and both intra-file duplicates and addresses already on the list land in the skipped count.
Header rows and blank rows fail email validation, so they are skipped without counting toward your cap.
Access levels by plan
Contact list access follows an asymmetric model designed to let downgraded accounts clean up their data. The operations that grow a list are Pro-only; the ones that read or shrink it are not.
Pro only:
- Create a new list
- Add a member
- Import members from CSV
Any plan (Free, Basic, or Pro):
- List your saved lists and view their members
- Remove a member from a list
- Delete a list and all its members
If you downgrade from Pro, your lists are not deleted and you can still read them and remove members or whole lists. You cannot create new lists or add members until you are back on Pro. Note that the Contact lists panel in account settings is only rendered for Pro accounts — on a lower plan these read and cleanup operations remain available through the API.
Sending invites to a list
Lists exist to streamline bulk email invites. On the Configure & Share screen, when you open the invite panel, you can choose to send to a specific list instead of typing individual addresses. Sending to a list is a Pro feature and counts toward your daily invite cap (1,000 invites per day for Pro; see Plans and limits for detailed tier breakdowns).
Each recipient in your list receives their own unique tracked link. Views are attributed to them in your readership analytics, and opening the tracked link satisfies the email gate so they are never asked for their address.
