Embed a tracked PDF in Notion

By Nick ·

Paste an EveryPage link into any Notion page and choose Embed: the tracked, branded viewer - flipbook, swipe, or standard - renders right inside the page, and every read is attributed and tracked. No Notion setup, no plugin, works on every plan. Connect your workspace afterwards and each read session also lands as a row in a Notion database. See the Notion integration overview for the full picture.

What you need

  • A document shared with EveryPage - a free account is enough.
  • Edit access to the Notion page you want the document on.
  • Nothing else. Embeds need no API key, no OAuth, and no Notion configuration.

Step 1: copy the embed link

Open your document's share sheet and use Copy embed link for Notion - it copies the durable short-ID embed URL, the form built for iframes. The plain share link works too; the embed link just skips the viewer chrome that makes sense on a full tab but not inside a portal page.

Step 2: paste, then choose Embed - not Bookmark

  1. Paste the link into the Notion page where you want the document.
  2. Notion asks what to do with it. Choose Embed. (Bookmark makes a flat preview card that sends readers off to another tab - the one option to avoid.)
  3. The tracked viewer renders in-page, in whichever viewer mode the document is set to.

Sizing tips

  • Drag the embed's handles to resize it - taller suits flipbooks, and the viewer adapts to whatever width the block gets.
  • For documents that deserve the room, put the embed in a full-width section rather than a narrow column - page-turn spreads read much better wide.
  • Inside a narrow column the viewer collapses to single-page display on its own; nothing to configure.

What tracking you get

Everything a direct link gets, attributed to the embed channel so portal reads are distinguishable from link opens: read sessions with pages read and time spent, the read-through funnel, returning readers, countries, and per-page stats on your plan's readership dashboard - with no reader IP addresses stored.

Optional: sync reads into a Notion database

The second half of the integration turns Notion into your CRM. Go to Account settings, choose Connect Notion, authorize your workspace, and pick a parent page - EveryPage creates an "EveryPage Reads" database there and writes one row per reading session, moments after each reader closes the document: document, reader, pages read, minutes, read-through %, returning, source, country, and a session link. A 30-day backfill import covers reads from before you connected. The integration page documents every column and the plan gating (reader names and lead rows need the Pro email gate).

Troubleshooting

  • You got a Bookmark card. Delete the block, paste the link again, and pick Embed this time. Pasting the /embed link from the share sheet makes the Embed option the natural choice.
  • The embed says the document can't open here. Password-protected and email-gated documents refuse to render inside an embed on purpose - an iframe on someone else's page is no place for a password. The embed shows an "Open document" link to the direct share page, where the gate works normally. To render in-page, remove the password and rely on watermarks and expiry instead.
  • Notion's mobile app looks different. The mobile app renders embeds in a smaller, sometimes lazily-loaded frame - the viewer works, but readers may need a tap to start it and get the single-page layout. The web and desktop apps show the full experience.
  • The page is public. Public Notion page means public embed: anyone who can see the page can read the document, and those views count toward your plan limits like any other read.

Questions

How do I embed a PDF in Notion with tracking?

Share the PDF with EveryPage, copy the embed link from the share sheet, paste it into your Notion page, and choose Embed - not Bookmark - when Notion asks. The tracked viewer renders in-page and every read session is recorded: pages read, time spent, read-through, and returning readers, with no reader IP addresses stored.

Do my readers need an account or an app?

No. Readers just see the document inside the Notion page they already have. There is nothing to install on either side - Notion's built-in Embed block does the rendering, and the tracking is part of the EveryPage viewer.

Why does my embed show a Bookmark card instead of the viewer?

Bookmark was picked when the link was pasted - it is the flat preview card option in the same menu as Embed. Delete the block, paste the link again, and choose Embed. Using the /embed link from the share sheet's "Copy embed link for Notion" button makes this the natural choice.

Can Notion reads sync into a Notion database?

Yes - connect your workspace from Account settings and EveryPage creates an "EveryPage Reads" database under a page you pick, then writes one row per reading session moments after it ends, with pages read, minutes, read-through %, source, country, and a session link. Reader names and captured lead rows require the Pro email gate; other plans see stable pseudonyms like "Reader #214".
